Important Information for Students

New LOA Requirement for Students Residing with Persons Serving SHN Returning from High-Risk Countries

As of 8 November 2020, if your household members are returning from high-risk countries, they are required to serve their Stay-Home Notice (SHN) at dedicated facilities by default. However, they may appeal to serve SHN at home due to extenuating circumstances e.g. medical grounds.

To minimise transmission risks on campus, students residing in the same household as a Person Serving SHN (PSHN) at home will be required to go on LOA. The LOA requirement would not apply if the PSHN had returned from a lower-risk country where the default option is to serve SHN at their own accommodation (refer to table below).

LOA Requirement Based on Country of Return:

 Countries/Region New LOA Regime
  • Sabah (Malaysia)
  • All other countries
  • LOA required for students in the same household as risk of household transmission is high
  • Australia
  • Brunei
  • Hong Kong
  • Malaysia (except Sabah)
  • Macau
  • Mainland China
  • New Zealand
  • Taiwan
  • Vietnam
  • LOA not required for students in the same household as risk of household transmission is low

As long as you have a household member serving SHN, you will need to contact Student Support via students@suss.edu.sg to declare:

  • Whether you are residing in the same place of residence as a household member who is currently serving SHN at home, and if so
  • Which country the household member has visited and returned from.

Please type in the email subject as “Household Member on SHN – (*insert PI Number*)”. Student Support will follow up with you accordingly if an LOA is required. The duration of the LOA will be aligned to the duration of the household member’s SHN.

New Travel Declaraion

Please submit a new travel declaration for trips with arrival dates from 1 August to 31 December 2020. This supercedes any earlier travel declarations, and is required even if you do not have travel plans. Please submit your declaration by 13 August 2020, 2359hrs in order to continue having access to Canvas.

Updated Border Control Requirements

For students who have recent travel history to Hong Kong, Sabah (Malaysia), Indonesia, Philippines, there are changes to border control measures that you should take note of. Please refer to the student portal for more details.

Leave of Absence (LOA) for Medical Certificate (MC)/Hospitalisation Leave (HL)

If your household members are unwell, especially with flu-like symptoms, please encourage them to see a doctor. Should any of your household members be on MC/HL, please do not return to campus. Instead, email the MC/HL of your household member to Student Support (students@suss.edu.sg) and you will be issued a letter to excuse you from face-to-face classes. If you have online classes, you can continue to attend them as usual.

Returning to Campus for Lessons

If you are returning to campus for face-to-face lessons, please submit a health declaration  before coming to campus and keep the email notification sent to you as proof of declaration for at least 14 days.

On campus, show your scheduled class timetable to security staff and check in by scanning the SafeEntry QR code. Don’t forget to activate your mobile phone’s Bluetooth and TraceTogether app at all times. Temperature screening will continue to be administered on campus by security staff.

For students attending face-to-face classes on Sundays, please enter the campus via the Blk C basement carpark entrance as the other entrances will be closed.
